TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Every year, the Florida State and Florida A&M softball teams play each other at least once. Each are dominant programs in their respective conferences, and each program is led by a dominant head coach. Florida State's Lonni Alameda joined the 700-win club this weekend, while Lady Rattler head coach Veronica Wiggins sits at 771 wins, the lone coach to reach the milestone solely at an HBCU.
Wednesday night, the two 700-club members face each other. For Wiggins, it's a farewell tour as shes retiring at the end of the season, and Wiggins is as humble as ever. This game is never about her, as she said she's more happy for Lonni and her milestone.
"I don't, what do you call it, text? I did text her and tell her congratulations," she laughed. "It's about the young kids that we're touching, the young ladies we're touching. We're not looking at the numbers. I'm not, and I don't think Lonni is. We've talked about it before. It's about making our young ladies well rounded and productive citizens."
Wednesday's match-up is set for a 6:00 start at the Seminole Softball Complex.
