TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Mar. 24) – A four-run seventh inning rally vaulted the FAMU Baseball team to a 9-4 win over Wofford College Sunday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field.

Sunday’s win gave the Rattlers a 2-1 record in the three-game series against Wofford (17-9), and gave FAMU their fifth win in their last six games.

The Rattlers took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Kaycee Reese’s two-run homer to left center, scoring Tucker Rayburn.

Two two clubs traded runs in the fourth, then FAMU plated a tally in the fifth to push out to a 4-1 edge.

Wofford scored once in the sixth, then tied the game, 4-4, with two runs in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the frame, FAMU took control of the game with a four-run rally to vault ahead, 8-4. Octavien Moyer’s RBI double scored Seyjuan Lawrence for a 5-4 FAMU edge. Moyer later scored on a single by Willis McDaniel for a 6-4 score.

Tucker Rayburn’s fielder’s choice grounder scored Jared Weber for a 7-4 edge, then McDaniel later scored from third on a Wofford wild pitch for an 8-4 cushion.

Brett Maxwell scored the game’s final run in the bottom of the eighth from third on McDaniel’s RBI grounder.

Reliever Morgan Mendez (2-1) got the win for FAMU after coming in for starter Josh Barr, who worked into the seventh. Jeremiah McCollum came on in the eighth and pitched one and two-thirds scoreless innings for his second save of the series, and his sixth of the year.

FAMU had 12 hits in Sunday’s game, led by Moyer, McDaniel, Tucker Rayburn and Seyjuan Lawrence with two hits apiece. Reese, McDaniel, Moyer and Rayburn each had two RBIs.
