JACKSON, Ms. — Jared Weber continued to swing a hot bat as he homered and drove in three runs, but it wasn't enough as the Florida A&M University baseball team dropped the series finale to Jackson State, 12-6, on Sunday afternoon at Braddy Field.
Weber, who went 9-for-12 during the three-game series against Jackson State, belted a two-run homer in the seventh inning as Florida A&M (4-9) dropped its fourth straight game.
How It Happened
Much like Saturday's game, Florida A&M began the scoring in the top half of the first inning as the Rattlers took advantage of a pair of Jackson State errors.
Octavien Moyer singled to left with one out and advanced all the way to third on a pair of Jackson State errors. Jared Weber brought Moyer in on a base hit to right center to give FAMU the quick 1-0 lead.
Jackson State tied the game at 1 in the second as Chris Prentiss singled up the middle with one out and stole second. Jaylyn Turner hit a two-out base hit to center and advanced to second on the throw as Prentiss scored.
Florida A&M broke the 1-all tie in the third as Camden Hart walked to begin the inning and moved to second on a Seyjuan Lawrence single through the left side. Hart tagged and moved to third on Weber's deep fly ball to center and came across to score on a double steal attempt, giving the Rattlers the 2-1 lead.
The Tigers tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the fourth as Prentiss led off the frame with a triple to right center and scored on a groundout by Jefrey Rodriguez.
Jackson State loaded the bases in the fifth and broke the game open with six runs on three hits and took advantage of one error to grab an 8-2 advantage.
Florida A&M closed the gap to 8-4 with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.
Weber leadoff double down the left field line and came across to score on Tucker Rayburn's single to center. LJ Bryant drew a walk to move Rayburn to second and Dan Clancy bounced a two-out single over the third baseman and into left field, scoring Rayburn.
Back came Jackson State in the bottom of the frame with one run to push the lead to 9-4.
In the seventh, Weber crushed a one-out two-run bomb over the wall in left, cutting the deficit to 9-6.
Back came Jackson State in the bottom of the inning with three runs on three hits to extend the lead to 12-6.
