ITTA BENA, Miss. — The Florida A&M softball team fell behind early en route to dropping a 7-1 verdict to Tennessee State during the final day of action in the Mississippi Valley State University Legends Softball Classic at MVSU Field Sunday afternoon.
Fielding miscues proved costly to Florida A&M (2-12), which won its first two games of the year on Saturday, as they committed five errors, which aided the Tigers, who finished with six hits.
TSU scored a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead, then after FAMU tied the score with a run in the second, the Tigers took the lead for good at 3-1 in the top of the third, with a two-spot.
Tennessee State picked up another tally in the fourth for a 4-1 lead, then closed out the game with three runs in the sixth.
In the second inning, Destiny Cuevas got the first of her two hits, scoring on Alexis Blasingane's RBI ground out to the pitcher.
Florida A&M finished Sunday's game with three hits, two coming from Cuevas and one from Seriah Brokenborough.
Brandice Boatwright (0-4) got the start in the circle for FAMU, working into the sixth inning, allowing all seven TSU runs on five hits with one strikeout. Kyaira Brown came on in relief, allowing just one hit over the final two innings.
