GAINESVILLE, Fl. — The FAMU Women’s Softball team opened play Friday morning in the 2020 Bubly Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium, dropping two games against Southeastern Louisiana and Longwood (Va.) University.
SE LOUISIANA 6, FAMU 1
In Friday’s opener against SE Louisiana, the Rattlers fell behind 2-0 after two innings, for cutting their deficit to 2-1 in the top of the third, when pincn runner Shontell Cliatt scored from third on a throwing error.
SLU scored two more runs in the bottom of the third and tallied a run in the fourth, extending their lead to 5-1 after four innings.
The Lions added a final run in the bottom of the fifth to close out the game’s scoring.
Senior center fielder Jamesia Stoudemire led FAMU’s three-hit attack with two hits, followed by Alexis Blasingane wi9th one hit.
Freshman pitcher Nadia Zenteno (0-2) took the loss for FAMU, after allowing six runs on 13 hits, striking out two, while walking two.
LONGWOOD 8, FAMU 0
In Friday’s second game, Longwood got off to the races early, scoring once in the second inning, and two runs each in the third and fourth to build a 5-0 lead.
Longwood closed out the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs to invoke the eight-runrule after five innings.
FAMU finished the game with four hits, three coming from Jamesia Stoudemire, and one from Melkayla Irvis..
Gabriella Williams (0-3) got the pitching decision in the circle for FAMU in Game Two, allowing eight runs on 12 hits. She walked three hitters with non strikeouts
WHO’S ON DECK: Saturday’s second round schedule for the Rattlers has them facing North Dakota State at 9:00 a.m., and SE Louisiana at 7:00 p.m.
