TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Florida A&M head baseball coach Jamey Shouppe uses the word "grit" to define his baseball team. After starting out MEAC play 0-6, the Rattlers fought back, finishing conference play 14 and 10 and locking up the two spot in the Southern Division for this week's Conference tournament.

Del State is their first game opponent Wednesday, and coach and this team know if they want their season to continue, they have to come out on top this week.

"We tell our guys all the time, if you think the game of baseball is going to be easy, you're in the wrong sport," said Shouppe. "Nothing's going to be easy, nothing's going to be given to you. The game of baseball is like life, it's all about overcoming adversity."

"We'll have to do everything, pitch, hit, run and I'd say stuff that's beyond the stat line," said sophomore pitcher Jeremiah McCollum. "I would say more effort stuff, emphasize on the little things."

First pitch for FAMU's match-up with Delaware State is set for noon on Wednesday.
