TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) — The senior football players for Florida A&M will take the field at Bragg Memorial Stadium one last time this Saturday. The Rattlers host Howard in a MEAC showdown.

Florida A&M has looked sharp the majority of the 2019 season. Despite losing to UCF in their season opener, the Rattlers have won 8 straight games and are currently ranked #12 in the STATS FCS Top 25.

This Saturday is not just another MEAC game, but it's also the day the university, fans, and alumni will honor the seniors on the football team. The things the senior class has accomplished throughout their time at Florida A&M should not be taken lightly, according to head coach Willie Simmons.

"A good percentage of these guys that we'll celebrate on Saturday were 1-10 in their first season as true freshmen," explained Coach Simmons. "For them to go from 1-10, laughing stock of the MEAC conference, to now being the unanimous #1 team in black college football, to being nationally ranked as high as 12th, which is as high as I can remember this program being in a long time, it really speaks to their resolve."

While being #1 in black college football, the Rattlers still need to finish strong. Next week, Florida A&M will face Bethune-Cookman. However, that game is not on the minds of players or coaches.

"We have a goal here. We have many goals. One of our goals is to be undefeated at home. That opportunity is here this weekend. We have the goal to become black college national champs. Due to the fact that we are ineligible for the Celebration Bowl, we understand for that to be possible, we have to take care of business every week, and leave no doubt as to whether we are the best team in black college football."

Kickoff for Saturday's game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Bragg Memorial.
