Aggies Run Away From FAMU, 71-44

GREENSBORO, N.C. | The Florida A&M University women's basketball team got off to a very slow start here Monday evening en route to dropping a 71-44 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference road decision to North Carolina A&T State at the Corbett Center.

FAMU (2-11 overall, 0-2 MEAC) fell behind, 21-6 after the first quarter, and trailed 37-14 at the half. The Lady Rattlers came alive a bit in the second half, as they were edged 34-30 by the Aggies over the final two quarters.

MONDAY'S LEADING LADIES
Freshman guard Alaina Rice led FAMU with 13 points and five rebounds, with one block and one assists. Graduate center Shalunda Burney Robinson added 12 points and four rebounds. Graduate forward Asia Royster scored nine points with six rebounds, while freshman Mikyah Mack pulled down a team high eight rebounds.

North Carolina A&T State (9-4, 1-0 MEAC) had three players score in double digits, led by C'Coreia Foy with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists, with four three-pointers made in six tries. Jayla Jones-Pack turned in a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Cinia McCray finished with 16 points.

MORE NUMBERS
The Aggies finished the game shooting 39.4 percent (26-of-66) from the floor, and 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from three-point range. FAMU shot just 27.7 percent (13-of-47) from the field and went 0-for-16 from distance.

Turnovers proved deadly as well, as FAMU committed 31 miscues to 19 for North Carolina A&T State, but the Lady Rattlers held a 38-37 edge on the boards.

FAMU did shoot well from the charity line, cashing in 18-of-24 free throws for a 75 percent, while the Aggies hit 12-of- 21 foul shots for a 57.1 percentage.

WHO'S ON DECK: FAMU will host a MEAC Weekender at the Al Lawson Center against the Baltimore Twins, Morgan State (Saturday at 2:00 p.m.) and Coppin State (Monday at 6:00 p.m.).
