TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Chiles volleyball team finished 17-9 last year, but fell short in their tough District tournament. This season, the ladies look to get over the hump and return to the postseason.
They will have to replace several key players off last year's squad to do that, but they have a talented senior class this season to fill in the holes. Head coach Kaitlin DiLuzio also encouraged by their large sophomore class of twelve, a number she says adds depth to their team.
Chiles again in a tough District with Leon and Lincoln, and if history repeats, it'll be another tough year, but one that benefits them in the end.
"We've had teams from our district in the Final Four, the Elite Eight," said DiLuzio. "It's very rare that teams from our District are left out of those two State components. We know it's very competitive. It's kind of like the last man standing, who's going to be standing last because we know competitively all of our teams are very competitive. It's going to see at the end who's ready to go."
Chiles heads to Jacksonville for preseason action on August 20th before opening up the regular season against Saint John Paul II.
