TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - The 2019 Competitive Cheerleading State Championships got underway Thursday in Gainesville, with half a dozen Big Bend high schools qualifying to compete. However, only one made it as a Region Champion.
That Region Champion? Chiles High School, and the Timberwolves are looking to ride that momentum in Friday's State Finals.
Chiles finished second last season, and with a lot of girls from that team still competing, they want to close this season out on top.
Two minutes and thirty seconds, just once chance to impress the judges, and they plan to bring it on Friday.
"It's really exciting. It's a little nerve wrecking because we do have only one chance," said senior Cali Rich. "I just feel like we need to go out there and leave our all out on the floor and hit. Rather than focus on winning, we need to focus on hitting."
"We started freshmen year and every year we've gotten better," added senior Lauren Matheu. "This year I really want to win. Everyone is working together to be the best we can be and it feels different than every other year."
Chiles competes around 4:00 Friday afternoon.
