TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Youth football is a big key to a high school program's success. The Chaires Eagles are fresh off a Pop Warner National Championship, but this season were struggling to supply helmets to their kids and were losing enrollment.

On Tuesday, the organization held a fun day. Parents could also register their kids to play. The event had a good turnout, and for those involved, Pop Warner football and cheer is about so much more than athletics.

"Pop Warner is one of the only National sports organizations that focuses on academics before athletics," said Mesha Ware, who is the President of the Chaires Eagles. "Big Bend Pop Warner along with each association does a good job of celebrating the scholar athlete as opposed to just the athlete."

"It's not about out here cheering on a sideline, but it's about academics," added Dicye Baker, who is the head cheer coach. "It's overall being a mentor to a child and not beign their mom or dad, but I care about you and I also want you to do a good job."
