TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - With the help of Scotts and Major League Baseball, Capital Park in Tallahassee has seen major upgrades over the past two months. Chosen as a special honoree thanks to two-time World Series champion David Ross.

The field has been refurbished, and Tuesday night, it made it's debut. A ribbon cutting ceremony marked the field ready for play, and thanks to the Cal Ripkin, Sr. foundation, kids got to enjoy a baseball and softball clinic featuring Ross himself and a slew of Big Bend coaches.

Over 100 campers were able to experience the new grass for the first time, and for Ross, this is a day he's been waiting for for quite some time.

"It's just really cool to see, I drove up and can't stop smiling at this grass," he said. "The way this grass looks on this field just boggles my mind, it was all dirt just three months ago! It was all dirt when I played here, trying to chase my dream of playing baseball for a long time and was able to do that. Now to have these kids out here, and be able to have that same opportunity is really cool to me and this is top notch facility. This is one of the highlights of my year for sure."

Ross added he hopes the field can generate more awareness to the game and bring more kids onto the diamond.
