CAIRO, Ga. — The 2020 Major League Baseball Draft started Thursday night, with the first round of five kicking things off. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, this year's Draft is only five rounds, but Cairo grad Emerson Hancock only needed six picks to hear his name.

The former Syrupmaker has spent the last three years at Georgia, going 16-7 with a 3.47 ERA in 33 appearances. He had 206 strikeouts and 55 walks in 192 innings of work.

Hancock is the 11th Bulldog in school history to be drafted in the First Round of the Major League Baseball Draft, and he's the hiest selection out of Georgia since 1987.
