VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Valdosta State football took to the practice fields at 8:30 Monday morning for their first practice of 2014 fall camp.

"We're excited to be out," said sophomore quarterback Kaleb Nobles. "We had a good summer. Guys are ready to get out here and fly around, so we're ready for the season to start."

"It was good," added senior defensive back Justin Williams. "We got a lot of things done today. Everyone came out with good attitudes."

After a long summer of limited contact between players and coaches, the VSU staff was eager for this day to come.

"This is like Christmas for a football coach to be back out with the kids," said head coach David Dean. "(We) go through a lot of technique stuff, and just feel the excitement of a new season."

Gulf South coaches picked the Blazers to finish third in the conference in this year's preseason poll.

"We're just coming in as one unit," said junior running back Cedric O'Neill. "I feel everyone this year is gonna be on the same page. We all wanna win, and I feel like at the end of the season, we're gonna be playing for the title."
