VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State sophomore catcher Bryant Hayman has been named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week after leading VSU to a 3-1 record last week.
Hayman batted .412 last week has he had seven hits in 17 at-bats for the Blazers. The Waycross, Ga. native hit one home run and scored three runs while driving in six on the week.
Hayman's play was especially impressive as Valdosta State took two-of-three games from second-ranked Delta State. He had four hits in the three-game series while leading a VSU offense that scored 20 runs against the Statesmen.
Hayman and the Blazers return to action Thursday when they open play in the Gulf South Conference Tournament against North Alabama. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. at AT&T Park in Chattanooga, Tenn.
