Valdosta, GA (WTXL)-- Eight seconds away from losing E.J. Hillard found Greg Dent for the game-winning 28 yard touchdown. Valdosta advances to play West Georgia with a thrilling 61-59 win. VSU put up 682 yards of total offense, a single-game program record. The touchdown to Dent capped a six-play 69 yard drive that took only 43 seconds. It was an offensive shootout that featured only 3 punts combined.
The Blazers wouldn't have advanced without Cedric O'Neal. The running back finished the game with three touchdowns. O'neal now has 17 touchdowns this season--a new school record. The most memorable one came in the 4th quarter when O'Neal hurdled his way to a 41 yard touchdown to give VSU a 48-45 lead. The Blazers scored 34 points in the 4th quarter.
VSU is now in the second round against West Georgia next Saturday at noon. The Blazers lost to West Georgia 49-28 in October.
