Blazer golf finishes ninth at Jay Jennison Memorial

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Valdosta State shot a final round 301 to finish ninth out of 17 teams at the Jay Jennison Memorial with a three-round total of 890 at the par 72, 7,073 yard Palencia Course Tuesday morning.

On a day that saw rain and wind blanket the course, the Blazers were 13-over-par and finished the tournament at 26-over. Host Flagler shot a final round 290 to claim the team title with a one-over 865 while Queens, which also shot a 290 on Tuesday, finished second at 876. Georgia College was a shot behind and in third after tallying a 299 in the final round and West Georgia finished fourth at 878 after firing a final round 295. Lander tallied a 302 in the final round 302 to round out the top five with an 880 while Armstrong Atlantic (306) came home sixth at 886.

Mount Olive (296) and Rollins (300) tied for seventh at 887 while Erskine (311) followed VSU in 10th at 893. Wilmington (300) was 11th at 901 while Eckerd (298) and North Georgia (305) finished tied for 12th at 908. Young Harris (299) was 14th at 909 and Newberry (307) followed at 916 while Montevallo (316) was 16th at 925 and Tampa (310) rounded out the field at 927.

Austin McNeill paced Valdosta State as he shot a final round 74 to finish the tournament at three-over-par and tied for 15th. Florian Schmiedel was two strokes behind and tied for 22nd after carding a 75 on Tuesday, while John Fordham shot a 76 in the final round and tied for 31st at 224. Alex Jones shot a final round 77 and tied for 42nd with an 11-over 227 while Wheaton Hall rounded out the squad with a 229 after shooting a final round 76.

Queens' Alex Weare tallied a final round 74 to claim individual medalist honors with a four-under 212.

The Blazers return to action Monday, September 30 at the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational in Columbus, Ga.
