MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) - The good news for volleyball teams in the Big Bend is that if you made to Thursday night's District Championship games, you still have a shot at a State title. However, if you win a District Championship, you earn the right to host at least the first round of Regionals.
In Class 8A District 2, Leon and Lincoln faced off for bragging rights. The Lions of Leon, cruised to wins in straight sets to win their second straight District Championship.
"Nobody knows the adversity this team has been through," said head coach Angie Strickland. "It's just a tribute to these girls working hard. So selfless tonight, relying on some girls to really step it up in some leadership positions. Our five seniors that we love so much. Just so much emotion. We're so, so excited!"
In Class 4A, the Maclay Marauders swept defending State Champion PK Yonge to take the District 1 title. St. John Paul II swept Rocky Bayou to claim the District 1 Championship.
In Class 1A, the Sneads Pirates began the hunt for the fourth straight State Championship in a big way, beating Altha 3-0 for the District 2 title. In District 5, Lafayette beat Bell 3-1 to claim the Championship.
