TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - It's been a great year for Florida State's stick and ball sports. Mike Martin became the all time winningest coach in college baseball history, while Florida State softball won the program's first NCAA National Championship.
On Wednesday, both Eleven and softball head coach Lonni Alameda were honored by Florida governor Rick Scott.
"One of the greatest honors bestowed upon me," said Martin after the presentation in front of Florida's cabinet. "It makes me so proud to be a Seminole. Very proud that the President, the Athletic Director, our coaching staff and everyone else was here to enjoy the moment with me."
Both agreed that success breeds success, and the two program's feed off of each other.
"When you're a family that is driven to be the best you can be in all areas, it really resonates," added Alameda. "Coach Martin's been amazing for our softball program and for Florida State in general. We're so lucky to be around him as much as we can. It was an honor today."
