MONTICELLO, Fla. (WTXL) - For seven area softball teams, the road to Vero Beach and the State Finals continued on Tuesday night. For the Aucilla Christian Warriors, a win on Tuesday would put them pack in the Class 2A Final Four for a chance to defense their State Championship.
Aucilla Christian jumped out to the early lead, and never looked back, scoring three runs in the first inning en route to a 10-0 victory to claim the 2A Region 1 Championship over Countryside Christian.
"It means I have a great group of girls that come out and work hard everyday," said head coach Becky Lauth. "They just prepare for each and every game."
The Class 2A State Semifinals are set for Wednesday, May 4th in Vero Beach. Joining the Warriors at Historic Dodgertown are the Franklin County Seahawks, who beat South Walton for the Class 1A Region 3 title, 7-4.
Lafayette fell to Union County 7-4 in the Class 1A Region 2 Final. In Class 3A, North Florida Christian lost 6-3 to University Christian.
In Class 4A, the Florida High Seminoles hosted Trinity Christian for the Region 1 Championship. The Noles scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, but it was too little, too late, as the Conquerors held on to win 4-2.
In Class 5A, Regional Semifinal action hit the field on Tuesday night. Godby scored three runs in the top of the first, but fell to Walton 4-3. Suwannee High School lost 4-2 to Baker County.
