MONTICELLO, Fl. (WTXL) — For the third straight season, students at Aucilla Christian in Monticello took to the walkways Friday to send off the Warrior girls basketball team to Lakeland.

This year's team is young, with just one senior with game experience in the Final Four, but the goal remains the same.

The last two years, they've lost in the Final Four. This team is fighting for a spot in the State Finals for the first time, and they're ready for the opportunity.

"Senior season, get to go to the final four. I'm just happy we made it," said Ashlyn Rogers. "You get what you work for, so us coming out and working hard pays off to get to go."

"First half of the season was a tough season. We played a very tough schedule and the record kind of shows that," added head coach James Burkett. "We knew second half of the season, we knew it'd be favorable to get some good wins and just build the momentum. We're very excited."

Aucilla Christian will play on Monday at 2:00 in Lakeland in the 2A State Semifinals. FAMU DRS follows in Class 3A at 6:00. State Championships for both are on Tuesday. Class 2A is at 4:30, with Class 3A following at 7:00.
