THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — The four A region one standings are neck and neck right now with two weeks left in the regular season.
The Bainbridge Bearcats currently hold the top spot, but that could all change Friday night when they hit the road for a showdown with Thomas County Central.
The Yellow Jackets could turn the tide with a win so let’s dive into your ABC 27 game of the week.
“We just keep pushing and keep our heads up, go get the big hits and work," said Braxton Johnson, a Bainbridge wide receiver.
The recipe for a win come Friday night is simple for the Bearcats. Win at all costs and secure the region title.
A win against the Yellow Jackets will not only accomplish both of those goals, but it’ll also mark a milestone in the Bainbridge program.
"We’ve only had four region championships in Bainbridge Bearcats history, so this means a lot to us," said Jeff Littleton, the head football coach at Bainbridge. "It means a lot to the community, and we take pride in that.”
However, this Thomas County Central team has entered the week with a new mindset following their loss to Cairo last Friday.
“We just try to forget last week and try to move on and go win this week," said Tykeem Wallace, a Thomas County Central running back. "And a big thing this week is we have to limit our mistakes because, Bainbridge, they’re a good team.”
“I just focus on controlling what I can control and then letting everything else fall into place," said Jordan Jones, a Thomas County Central linebacker.
Friday’s contest will be a major test for this Yellow Jacket team, but Thomas County Central's head coach, Ashley Henderson and his guys have played through their fair share of hard-fought battles, poising this team to be ready for the challenge ahead.
“You’ve been in the pressure cooker, and the kids are not going to fold tent," Henderson said. "It’s been a tough schedule, like you said. But that’s one of the things we preach around here, tough people win.”
That game kicking off at Thomas County Central, Friday at 7:30 p.m.
