TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--More restrictions could be on the way to smokers. Florida senators are extending where they're going to ban you from lighting up.
Some lawmakers are looking to take the "Indoor Clean Act" outdoors.
Senate bill 258 passed the senate Health Policy committee with a 6 to 3 vote Thursday.
This measure would allow cities in the state to ban smoking at public parks, beaches, playgrounds, and other recreational areas.
If the bill becomes law it would be an extension to existing law in Florida that already bans smoking inside of restaurants and other public places.
"I've got three kids, I don't want to go to a park and stand next to somebody who's smoking or subjecting my kids to, but I also like it because I'm a former mayor of fernadina beacha and its great to give the authority to the local entity the local city that can make policy best for their city," said Senator Aaron Bean (R) District 4.
The three senators who opposed the bill were unavailable for comment Thursday afternoon.
The bill now heads to the Community Affairs committee.
