TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- It has been almost an entire year since Florida State University Law Professor Daniel Markel was murdered in his home. One day before the anniversary of his death, police have released an update to the case.
Police have been actively investigating the mysterious death since July 18, 2014 and while no suspects have been named, they say that there are some new details they hope will lead to an arrest.
Police have released more details about the a car they think is involved in the case. However, police believe it is possible that the car was used in this crime without the owner's knowledge.
The car in the surveillance picture is a 2006-2009 Toyota Prius, the silver paint on the car is called "Silver Pine Mica" and appears metallic to light green, depending on lighting. The windows of the car are dark tinted, said police.
The suspect car has three distinct characteristics, said police.
A missing tow bolt cover on the driver's side front bumper.
A black passenger side mirror housing (the driver's side mirror housing is the same color as the car body.
A toll transponder similar to a Sunpass or E-pass in the center of the front windshield.
In addition to the $25,000 reward that is being offered through Crime Stoppers, an independent source is now offering a separate reward of up to $100,000 for information provided directly to TPD that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of l Markel.
