ORLANDO, Fla. (CNN)-- A baby was apparently abandoned by his father at a central Florida erotic club, according to police.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said that the father, Kenneth Rowe Jr. was drunk when he showed up at the Shark Lounge, carrying his months-old baby boy. He reportedly asked a clerk to hold the baby so he could go outside and smoke a cigarette.

The clerk agreed because she was concerned about a baby being out in the cold night air, but Rowe disappeared. The business owner called 911.

Police say Rowe eventually returned, but not until employees took action.

"He asked her if she could hold the baby for a few minutes, and then we had to go and chase him down to get him to come back into the store to pick up his child. He's severely intoxicated," Chief Chitwood said.

Police said Rowe left the store with the baby, weaving in and out of busy traffic until he lay down on the ground.  Police said that he hid when officers showed up, but the baby gave him away when he started to cry.

The father was arrested and charged with neglect of a child. The baby was returned to his mother.
