TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A man was arrested Monday morning for breaking into a Tallahassee monastery and damaging a number of statues.
On Friday, several sculptures were destroyed at another business.
28-year-old Ahmad Hinson was arrested by Leon County deputies at the Vein Giac Buddhist Monastery on North Monroe Street.
The sheriff's office says around 25 marble statues and ornaments were damaged in the garden.
The incident has many asking if Hinson is connected to the overnight break in at The Patio Shop this weekend.
Right now, the answer is no, but the owner of The Patio Shop says there are similarities between what happened at his store and what happened Monday.
WTXL ABC 27 stopped by the business Monday. It was closed, but some people stopped by anyway to pick up orders that were spared, or to buy merchandise to support them.
The owner said all of the shop's religious statues and sculptures were destroyed, just like the ones damaged at the monastery. While law enforcement hasn't made a connection between the two incidents, the patio shop's owner says he feels for the monastery.
The business is still coming up with a plan as to what's next. The owner says it's still dangerous for customers to walk around the area where the statues are.
