JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — A multi-county operation into illegal activity in our local area during Spring Break has resulted in the arrest of 10 people in Jackson County for various crimes to include drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
The Jackson County Sheriff's office says they participated in Operation Beach or Bust during the week of April 1. The operation was hosted by the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations Units.
They say Operation Beach or Bust was initiated to conduct an operation that would concentrate on finding illegal drugs, weapons, and fugitives that made their way through the Panama City area via air, land and sea around the Spring Break time frame.
In Jackson County alone, a total of 71 traffic stops were conducted, two aircraft were stopped and searched, 13 K-9 deployments were conducted, 10 arrests were made, three warrants were served and two illegal immigrants were detained. As a result, 3.27 ounces of meth, 2.14 ounces of marijuana, 5.38 grams Xanax, 0.6 grams of buprenorphine, 1.08 grams of Oxycodone, 0.96 grams of Hydrocodone, four guns, $1,457 in cash and an assortment of ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and alcohol related items were seized.
"A multitude of other intelligence was gathered to include, but not limited to suspected weapons smuggling, drug trafficking and immigration leads were established due to the operation," officials wrote in a press release.
