THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) — With the economic uncertainties from the coronavirus, we here at ABC 27 are shining a light on businesses that are doing their part to help out the community while keeping their business open.
A locally owned independent book store is looking ahead to a new chapter and opening its doors to the public.
The Bookshelf in downtown Thomasville reopened this week by appointment only after being closed to foot traffic for 10 weeks.
During that time, they adapted to stay in business by offering curbside, delivery, phone orders and online orders. They also found a way to stay positive, despite the fallout from the coronavirus.
"It was supposed to be Independent Bookstore Day the last Saturday of April, and we obviously didn't have a big party, so we sold Independent Bookstore Day totes and 100% of proceeds went to Second Harvest here," said Annie Jones, the owner of The Bookshelf. "And so that was a great way for us to be able to give back."
The Bookshelf was able to make a $500 donation to Second Harvest of south Georgia. They also offered healthcare worker packages, featuring masks, bubble baths and wordsearch puzzle books.
