TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — With the economic uncertainties from the coronavirus, we here at ABC 27 are shining a light on businesses that are doing their part to help out the community while keeping their business open.

Taco Mora says, "We're open, Tallahassee!"

Chef Fernando Mora and his five sisters opened the fresh Mexican grill on West Pensacola Street two months ago, just as the coronavirus pandemic was coming to light.

He says business has dropped by 90 percent, but he's hopeful it will turnaround.

"A big part of the campus atmosphere is places to eat and sit with friends."

But when the college campuses closed, the fiesta was over.

"Right now is hard," said Mora. "Eighty percent of my business was for people who dine in, 20 percent business is takeout. But right now it's only takeout."

"The food is great," said Marino Valdes, Taco Mora customer. "I tried some yesterday and I'm back today!"

Last week, Mora revived the restaurant, focusing on a new crowd.

"Takeout is important," Valdes said. "They have that going on over here. People still gotta eat. People like us, people who are still working."

Bringing business back, one taco at a time.

To keep the kitchen going, Taco Mora is offering hospital workers free food on Mondays and a 50 percent discount on other days as a thank you for all they are doing right now.

"Try my food and help these particular people working in the hospital," said Mora. "It's a lot of people, scary, a lot of people die, and it's thank you for working in the hospital."

Taco Mora also has a special for everyone: Buy one get one free tacos on Tuesdays!

They are open until 9 p.m., and orders can be placed online for pickup.
