TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — With the economic uncertainties from the coronavirus, we here at ABC 27 are shining a light on businesses that are doing their part to help out the community while keeping their business open.

A local bike shop and tap room is getting back to some normalcy after completely reopening one week ago.

The bar side of Hubs and Hops was closed, per governor's orders, during several weeks of the coronavirus pandemic.

Hubs and Hops' full-service bike shop remained open during the coronavirus pandemic.

Owner Roger Hawkes says operations are now close to where they were before the pandemic, but they are still trying to keep social distancing efforts.

He says business has been busy, even selling out of some products with the growing interest in hybrids, cruisers and basic mountain bikes, from people who're looking for alternative transportation or exercise.

"There are no other resources with the manufacturers," said Hawkes. "So it's been substantial enough that those categories of bicycles that I shared with you are really not available unless you have those on the floor now, and those are becoming few and far between."

Bars were allowed to re-open June 1, but Hubs and Hops waited until June 4 to re-open their tap room.

General Manager Madison Byington says operations are a little different now. Employees are required to wear masks, they've increased sanitation, decreased capacity, and revamped a few things.

But she adds it's been really nice to see everyone again.

"It's been honestly so great," said Byington. "We almost kind of forgot what it felt like to have people in here, and it's been really really nice to see our regulars again, and just have people out and about, and socializing and enjoying themselves, and getting back to, somewhat, a little bit of normalcy."

Madison says what she's looking forward to the most is being able to have live music again.

The bike shop is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
