TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — With the economic uncertainties from the coronavirus, we here at ABC 27 are shining a light on businesses that are doing their part to help out the community while keeping their business open.
One local fitness studio is offering to lift the spirits of teachers and healthcare professionals during this difficult time.
This week is teacher appreciation week and Drip Drop Fitness in Tallahassee is hoping to help teachers "drop some stress" with online dance cardio classes at no cost to them.
Florida State University alumni Summer Griffith opened Drip Drop Fitness in Tallahassee three years ago.
She moved her group fitness classes online back in March due to Governor DeSantis' orders over the coronavirus pandemic.
Griffith wanted to do more and decided to offer one week of free unlimited online classes for medical and healthcare professionals as well as K-12 educators.
"We're not about necessarily getting in this extreme workout and weight loss," said Griffith. "It's more so about moving your body and having fun, especially in a time like this when mental health is so important, and staying sane in this craziness."
"I think I can speak for a lot of teachers that we are really missing the hugs, the love, and those smiles from students," said kindergarten teacher Kayla Wyatt. "So it's really nice when the community is supporting and rallying behind us. And getting a week of free classes, especially for Teacher Appreciation Week, makes it even more special."
Wyatt says she's messaged her co-workers to get them to take the classes with her.
Griffith says so far, about 25 educators and healthcare professionals have signed up for the free classes.
If you are a healthcare professional or teacher, just go to Drip Drop Fitness, send them an email with your credentials, and they'll get you set up to drop your worries, at least for an hour or two a day.
