TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — With the economic uncertainties from the coronavirus, we here at ABC 27 are shining a light on businesses that are doing their part to help out the community while keeping their business open.

Awards4U says, "We're Open, Tallahassee!"

Signs of love are popping up all over Tallahassee. You may have seen them if you work at a hospital, or if you've driven by one lately.

Sam Varn, the owner of Awards4U has been rewarding the community with his signs for years, now they're for our new heroes, the healthcare workers.

Awards4U creations now support healthcare workers.

"We wanted them to be recognized and make sure people understand what they're doing and to say thank you," said Varn.

Varn created appreciation signs that people can purchase, and 60 percent of each sign will be donated to Second Harvest.

"The campaign has been going on for about a week," said Varn, "and it was our goal to recognize the health care providers. They're the new heroes."

Neighbors like Donna Smithey took notice. She went online to purchase and personalize three signs.

"So, I saw this opportunity," said Smithey. "And I said, 'I'm buying these signs,' people need to feel like they are appreciated when they are driving into work or walking into work."

Varn and his son, Justin, are putting the signs the parking lots of local hospitals, and the response has been heartfelt.

"She started getting teary-eyed," Justin Varn said, "and I said simply, 'we just want to thank you. You are our modern day super heroes.'"

Varn says he's donating $15 of every $25 sign to Second Harvest.

Second Harvest said they could not be more grateful for being thought of during this time

So far, Awards4U sold and put out about 60 signs, but hope to fill the hospital parking lots with them.

To participate, go to Awards4U's website, then purchase and personalize as many signs you want.

They will put the signs out and post them to Facebook.
