Noles Fall at NC State

Eight-run second inning leads Wolfpack

RALEIGH, N.C. — No. 12 NC State used an eight-run second inning to knock off No. 6 Florida State 16-0 Friday evening at Doak Field. The Noles fell to 13-3 and 2-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference; NC State remained undefeated at 18-0 and 4-0 in the league.

Drew Parrish (2-1) lost his first outing of the season, allowing nine runs (seven earned) over five innings. Outside of the second inning, NC State scored one unearned run on two hits against Parrish. Jason Parker improved to 3-0 for the Wolfpack, giving up five singles and two walks while striking out 10 over seven innings.

Right fielder Reese Albert singled for FSU in the first inning, his first at-bat since spraining his thumb against Mercer on March 1. Parrish pitched a perfect first inning for the Noles.

In the second, Evan Edwards led off with his team-high fifth home run of the season for a 1-0 lead. The Wolfpack added seven more runs in the inning on three singles, two doubles, a triple, an error and a pair of walks.

The Seminoles best chance to strike came in the fourth inning on singles from Tim Becker and Robby Martin and a walk to Cooper Swanson, but a groundout ended without the Noles pushing a run across.

NC State added five runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh inning against the Seminole bullpen.

Third baseman Drew Mendoza singled in the eighth inning, extending his streak of reaching base to all 16 games this season. He has an active eight-game hitting streak.

Florida State looks to even the series in game two Saturday at 6:30 p.m. RHP CJ Van Eyk (3-1) looks for his team-high fourth win of the year, while NC State counters with RHP Reid Johnston (2-0).
