TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The new veterinary hospital at the Lowry Park Zoo recently marked its first year of operation.
The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/1MjwsTG ) reports the hospital has treated 800 animals and 300 species since it opened last November.
In the past year, the center has treated various species including crocodiles, manatees and black bears. The hospital says its first patient, Uno the panther who was shot in the face, has also recovered successfully.
The veterinary features state-of-the-art surgery, pharmacy and radiology facilities, as well as labs, veterinary offices and a recovery center. Two full-time veterinarians, one part-time veterinarian and three veterinarian technicians help the sick and injured animals.
The new hospital replaced a 27-year-old veterinary center when it opened.
