PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Funds from a swim club discrimination settlement have been distributed to six youth groups in the Philadelphia area.
The $65,000 in funding is part of a $1.1 million court settlement involving the now-closed Valley Club in Huntington Valley.
A Justice Department investigation found the suburban club had been racially hostile to minority children during paid visits arranged by their day care center in 2009.
The Valley Club filed for bankruptcy and closed in the wake of the ensuing publicity and discrimination lawsuit.
More than 70 campers and counselors who filed suit will share in the rest of the settlement.
The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission says Tuesday the nonprofits sharing in the $65,000 set-aside fund include the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia and the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia.
