14-Year-Old Boy Charged with Felony Involuntary Manslaughter in Valdosta

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - A 14-year-old has been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter after he accidentally shot a 16-year-old with a rifle.

The Valdosta Police Department said that on Wednesday around 5:30 p.m., they were called to a home in the 1000 block on Cherry Creek Drive about a shooting.

When they arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his chest. The victim was transported to the hospital where he later died. 

Police said that an investigation revealed that the 14-year-old boy was a relative of the victim.

They said that the boy had been playing with the rifle when he accidentally shot the victim. 

The 14-year-old is being charged with felony involuntary manslaughter through the Department of Juvenile Justice.
