TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Almost a week ago, WTXL with Second Harvest of the Big Bend, hosted our 5th annual Turkey Drive and now its time to donate those turkeys to families in need.
Throughout the day over 400 turkeys were collected and more than $23,000 were raised. That will provide at least $94,000 meals to families in need.
Mary Dekle, Director of Philanthropy with Second Harvest of the Big Bend, said this is what the holidays are all about.
"We're distributing those so that families can eat because when you sit down to a turkey dinner, you know leftovers are the best part, and a family can eat for a week on a turkey, so it's a really good option for the families," said Dekle.
