This week WTXL is in Colquitt County showing you what there is to do and where to go as part of our Road Trip series.

COLQUITT COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL)-- Home to numerous International and National Champions, the Moss Farms Diving Facility and Coaching Program is world renowned.

The facility is located just an hour north of Tallahassee.

Chris Heaton, the Head Coach at Moss Farms Diving Facility, said "Most people don't know, we are one of the top facilities in the country. We have one of the best outdoor facilities in the entire world, we're recognized by the Olympic committee for a dry land facility. We're one of 5 regional training centers in the united states."

The idea for this Colquitt Facility began with a backyard swimming pool, former gymnast Moose Moss turned his energies to diving and began coaching divers after serving as a pilot in World War II.

"He came back, fell in love with the sport, and just started it in his back yard. He had a one meter and a three meter," Says Heaton, "He essentially coached for free. All the kids came out and he turned some Joe Shmoes into national and international champions."

In 1993, the Moose Moss Aquatic Center came to be. Eventually, it served as a training site for 6 Olympic teams and became the host of several national diving championships.

"We have a pit we've got a 2 meter platform. We've got a pit board, couple of trampolines and we have rigs over everything so that the divers can do their dives while we're supporting them. Really it's top caliber."

The state of the art, one of a kind diving facility continues to draw in athletes from across the area.

Chase Lanne, who travels from Tallahassee to train, says "I come all of the way here because of the amazing environment and the legacy this place has and the coaches and family that we have here."
