COLQUITT COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Downtown Moultrie known as the heart beat of Colquitt County is home to over 45 local businesses.

Generally bounded by first avenue, southeast second avenue, first street, and fourth street, the area is considered a historic district. Although the overall integrity of the district remains intact, that doesn't mean Moultrie isn't keeping up with the times. A local trendy coffee shop is surprising residents with more then just a hot beverage serving up everything from smoothies to protein shakes.

Over 20 events are held in the downtown area each year, including one that draws hundreds to the small town. "Lights, Lights" kicks off the holiday season and is held on the eve of Thanksgiving at night.

It isn't just the downtown area that draws attention. Moultrie has the number one agricultural community in the state of Georgia. This southwest Georgia town stays true to its roots, while making waves nationally as well. It's now in the running to be listed as one of the top 25 Mainstreets in america.
