CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) - Driving through Cairo, you can't help but notice the importance of syrup.
The cane syrup company responsible for a lot of that, the Roddenbery Cane Syrup Company.
When the company was still open, dozens of buildings covered land directly across from the Cairo High School Football Field.
In the early 90's, the company was bought out by a Texas based company which still markets under the Roddenbery label.
The Cairo company closed in 2002.
Although the plant is no longer operating, Robin Roddenbery says, " When people pass by the plant, hopefully they can remember some of wonderful times and jobs that were provided for so many years. We loved Cairo, and we're sad that's no here any more either, but we're glad we could be apart of the economic part for a long time."
