CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) - The small town of Cairo has been called Georgia's hospitality city. The reason why? It's not just because of its friendliness and southern charm. The main reason has to do with a local business owner's antique car collection.
Located inside warehouses behind Cairo's Mr. Chick's restaurant is a collection of some of the world's most expensive antique cars.
The owner of the museum, Wayne Hadden, has been collecting cars for decades.
In the 1980's, Hadden heard the Great American Car Race was going to be coming near Cairo, Ga. He reached out to the Chamber of Commerce in Cairo, and eventually convinced organizers with the race to make a stop in the small Georgia town.
That year, participants with the Great American Race voted Cairo as the most hospitable city, that they had visited, in all of the U.S.
Today, the town hosts the Great Southern Antique Car Rally every year in May, a spin off from the Great American Race.
The weekend long event includes viewings of hundreds of different antique cars, tours of Grady County, as well as tours of the Cairo Antique Auto Museum.
