TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and you might have noticed several of us here at WTXL wearing pink today.
It's because we hosted a *Pinked Out* "WTXL Question Center" earlier tonight.
Representatives from the Florida Department of Health in Leon County were in our newsroom answering your phone calls about anything related to breast cancer -- like best prevention practices, how to get a voucher for a free mamogram, or how to get help.
One of the call-takers today, who's also a breast cancer survivor, Bernetta Brown, says early detection is key.
"It saved my life," she said. "I was a stage two, a very harsh type of breast cancer. It saved my life, had I not known about the program it is a possiblity that I wouldn't be here today."
To see if you qualify for the breast and cervical cancer early detection program and it's benefits, call (850) 404-6404.
Meanwhile, the office is participating in five outreach events this month, in Monticello, Greenville, Panacea, and two in Tallahassee.
