TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather update for the Florida Big Bend and south Georgia areas.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for south central Georgia and inland Florida Big Bend counties.

As a result of the warnings, the WTXL First Alert team has declared a First Alert Weather Day.

Reports say the combination of sub-freezing temperatures and a low pressure system will develop in the southeast region and that will result in a wintry precipitation for parts of our area.

The weather in the area will reach freezing temperatures with rain, sleet, and snow mixtures expected to accumulate. These conditions will effect travel and ice accumulations will cause power outages near I-75.

The peak time for the weather event will be 4 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning and ending by early afternoon.

Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for farther west across southeast Georgia and eastern FL Panhandle.

If you don’t have to get outside, please stay off the roads if you are experiencing wintry precipitation.
