TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Friday marked the final day in court for Tallahassee City commissioner Scott Maddox.
He's fighting a lawsuit claiming he lives outside the city limits and therefore shouldn't take office.
While covering this case, I headed to the house on Adams Street that Scott Maddox says is his legal residence.
I showed up unannounced, and the commissioner was there. He invited me to take a look inside, but with no camera.
He said it's due to security concerns he has with Erwin Jackson.
I was greeted by Maddox, his wife and their dog, as he showed me every room in the residence.
Many rooms were decorated for the holidays, and the bedrooms were furnished.
He even made it a point to show me the suits in his closet and the underwear in his dresser drawer.
Maddox says he's lived in this downtown house for years and that Jackson's investigation has violated his privacy by taking pictures from behind bushes at times to capture evidence.
"When someone goes after your family, I think it's personal. I don't know why he does that. I couldn't tell you his motivation, but it's unfortunate. Just because somebody wants to serve the public, they shouldn't be drug through the mud and exposing their family to unfair attacks," said Maddox.
Jackson said for years, people have overlooked Maddox's residence on Meadow Wood Court, but he's holding the commissioner accountable, telling me he'll pursue other options in appellate court, if the judge rules against him in this trial.
