Wrong way driver seen in video of I-75 crash charged

NOKOMIS, FL (WWSB) - A 54-year-old woman is facing multiple charges after authorities say she fled deputies and caused a wrong way crash on I-75 South.

On Tuesday around 11am, deputies say they saw Jacqueline Burge get into a white Ford Ranger at Edmondson Road and Orange Grove Avenue. Burge, who was known to authorities, does not have a driver's license, so deputies attempted to pull her over. That's when they say she fled.

The 54-year-old drove down a driveway, through a yard between a fence and a tree, and then back down a driveway, striking another deputy's vehicle, before driving west down Edmondson and running a red light at Albee Farm Road.

Deputies say Burge hit speeds of 70mph while traveling north on Albee Farm Road and then cut onto Laurel Road, where she manuvered around vehicles as her truck started to smoke. Burge then drove onto the I-75, where she lost control multiple times and hit a second deputy's vehicle, but managed to keep driving until she was heading the wrong way onto I-75 South. What happened next was all caught on video:

Burge collided with another truck on I-75 South just before Exit 193 Jacaranda Blvd on the Curry Creek Bridge and afterwards attempted to flee on foot, but was stopped by deputies. Inside her vehicle, authorities say they found methamphetamine and three prescription pills, as well as drug paraphernalia.

Burge was taken to Venice Hospital to be treated. She is charged with fleeing to elude, two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, driving while license suspended, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, possession of meth, possession of Xanax and possession of drug paraphernalia.
