ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - A police officer shot in the leg Sunday by a teenager who minutes later was fatally wounded by police was released from the hospital.

St. Petersburg police say 40-year-old Officer Michael Cordiviola was released Tuesday.

Authorities said on Sunday, suspect Austin Goodner argued with four people near a city pool, shot a man on a bike in the arm and then shot Cordiviola in the leg.

Goodner was known to officers, having been involuntarily committed twice in 2011. He had also been previously arrested for aggravated battery.

Cordiviola was dragged away from the scene by a fellow policeman and used a nearby hose as a tourniquet.

The county's state attorney is reviewing the shootings, which is routine for any police shooting that results in death.
