TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - A local funeral home is giving American flag owners in Tallahassee a chance to retire their old flags under the rules of the U.S. Flag Code.
According to the U.S. Flag Code, "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."
Lifesong Funerals and Cremations is collecting worn flags to be cremated with deceased U.S. veterans.
The funeral home has set up 14 locations in Tallahassee where flags can be dropped off for later cremation. You can see the list of locations by clicking here.
"We hold our country in high regard and believe it is important to treat the flag with respect and do whatever we can to express our appreciation to those who have fought to protect our freedom," said Tholley Taylor, owner of Lifesong. "This program gives us a way to live out those beliefs together with organizations and community members that feel the same way."
