ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey's prime minister says an outlawed Marxist group is responsible for a suicide bombing in front of the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, which killed the bomber and a Turkish security guard.
He said on Turkish TV today that the attack is the work of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, or DHKP-C. The group has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union.
White House press secretary Jay Carney is calling the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey "an act of terror."
The president's spokesman says it is not yet known who is responsible, but a suicide bombing on the perimeter of an embassy is, by definition, a terrorist act.
