TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It's World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
WTXL's Jada Williams spoke with a representative fromt the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, who explained what the day represents.
Elder abuse includes physical abuse, sexual abuse and financial abuse.
Experts across Florida educate the public, people who visit long care facilities to ensure they're up to standards, and guardianship program to regulate professional and public guardins appointed to help elder citizens.
About 41,000 cases of elder abuse were reported last year across Florida, and 9,000 of the cases were financial abuse.
The state offers information about reporting elder abuse on the FDEA site and at the Florida Department of Children and Families site.
The Florida Abuse Hotline is 1-800-96-ABUSE (1-800-962-2873).
