Woman seriously injured after driving off road, hitting tree

SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A woman was seriously injured in a single-car accident after she drove off the road and hit a tree in Suwannee County. 

Luinda Hicks, 47, of Mayo, Fla. was seriously injured in the accident.  

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 8:00 p.m. Tuesday on CR 137.

FHP said Hicks was driving south on CR 137, when for unknown reasons, she failed to negotiate a left curve, causing her car to drive off the roadway and hit a tree.  

FHP stated Hicks was taken to Lake City Medical Center by a passerby, before ultimately being taken to University of Florida Shands Hospital.  

At this time, FHP said it is unknown whether Hicks was wearing a seatbelt, however, alcohol did not play a role in the accident.  

According to FHP, charges are pending.
